Jack Klumpp, an American who has lived in China for eight years, and Yao Baiji (Jonathan), a Chinese local who lived and studied in the US for years, meet up and travel to Xiangning in northern China’s Shanxi Province to make hollow mooncakes, a Mid-Autumn specialty. Guided by a mother-daughter team, they shape dough, press molds, and learn how sugar creates the hollow center. The tradition connects families across distance, reminding Jack of his own holiday traditions back home.
